New Offices for Hilti South Africa

New Hilti Building

Waterfall Estate News Issue 4 2015

One benefit of being a leader in the construction industry is that when you are building new headquarters, you can ensure they are built to the highest standard.

That's exactly what Hilti is doing with it's new premises at the Waterfall Estate in Midrand, by insisting that construction company Archstone uses Hilti products for the project. It wasn't a big ask, since Archstone is already a loyal user of Hilti's tools and technologies, including installation, anchoring and direct fastening systems.

"We have been very involved in designing the building," says Hilti South Africa's managing director, Dirk Dijkstra. "One of the main reasons we are moving is because we have had three years of more than 20% growth and so we are out-performing our competitors. In 2010, we went from being everything to everyone, to a more focused strategy of spending time with our most loyal customers. This strategy has worked and business has doubled within five years, "says Dijkstra.

"Despite online sales and the mobile nature of it's staff, Hilti needed a little more office space than it currently has, "Dijkstra says.

It also needed larger premisis to grow its Tool Service Centre, as Hilti's reputation partly rests on a promise that any broken equipment will be repaired within 3 days. "We are investing in our Tool Service Centre because we are putting so many more tools out into the market and we want to deliver on our promise of the turnaround time, "Dijkstra says.

The new building will laso feature a 600 square metre Training Centre. New employees receive four to six weeks of training followed by two weeks of advanced training in Dubai. As from next year, all training will take place in the new premises. Hilti further trains the partners it works with in neighbouring countries and they will likewise be trained in Johannesburg. The Training Centre will also be used for training customers on how to use Hilti tools.

"We are the Top Employer in the construction services industry and one of the reasons isthe incredible training we give our people," says Dijkstra. "While our Top Employer status really helps us to attract the right people, the inspirational new building will also play its part."

Hilti will move into Waterfall Estate in September 2015, Its current staff of about 200 will grow to 300 in five years as Dijkstra aims to double the business again over that period.
